Update – Labour Situation at the Port of Montreal

Please be advised that according to CIFFA the Longshoremen’s Union CUPE Local 375 has informed its members of the following :

The employer, the Maritime Employers Association (MEA), put forth a final offer to the union on March 12, 2021. This was not an agreement in principle.

The union has been said to be negotiating in bad faith. As a result, on March 15, 2021, a hearing took place before the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB). A ruling is expected soon.

On March 18, 2021, the union will send out the final offer to its members by email. Copies of the offer will be available at the Maison des Débardeurs office for members who do not have access to email.

The Port of Montreal will be closed on March 21, 2021 from 7:00am to 3:00pm for an important member meeting during which the contents of the final offer will be discussed.

The union will follow up with information on the timing and format of the member meeting to allow maximum attendance for voting on the final offer.

For additional information, please contact your local Delmar Representative.
