Last Friday, the Maritime Employers Association announced that the longshoremen’s union will apply pressure tactics via a 72-hour general strike that will take place at the Port of Montreal next week, from July 27 to July 31, ending at 6:59 on July 31. All terminals will be affected except for Oceanex services and the grain terminals. Negotiations are to continue throughout this week.
Moreover, the Maritime Employers Association announced that it has received a strike notice from the Executive Committee of the Port of Montreal’s Checkers’ Union, effective Friday, July 31 at 5:59 a.m. and ending Saturday, August 1 at 5:59 a.m.
Not affected by this situation are: liquid bulk handling, the Oceanex service (Bickerdike Terminal) and the grain terminal (Viterra).
The Montreal Port Authority invites clients to contact or consult the websites of the various terminal operators for more specific information on their particular circumstances.
