The Quebec Port Authority recently announced the signing of a long-term partnership with Hutchinson Ports and Canadian National Railway (CN) to build and operate a new terminal. Known as Laurentia, the new $775 million project is expected to have the most environmentally and technologically advanced cargo-handling facility in North America. It will be a terminal with one of the smallest ecological footprints in the world. All three partners have agreed to share the majority of investment costs.
Laurentia will be intermodal and feature a deep-water port. Strategically, the terminal will help to reach the Midwest market. The project is currently under an environmental assessment process. No precise timeline has been given for when the new terminal will be open for business.
Delmar is continuing to monitor the project and will provide additional details when they become available.
