Major ocean freight carriers offering Westbound Trans-Atlantic services have advised that various factors, including congestion at the Port of Montreal, seasonal blank sailing programs, and a recent surge in demand outpacing vessel capacity, have put a strain on schedule reliability and most importantly space availability.
Carriers are seeing a surge in bookings coming from Europe. Bookings have increased to a level that has forced carriers to roll cargo, while they are re-adjusting to getting bookings back in line to lessen the inconvenience to the shipping community.
Demand is forecasted to be strong well into April, while capacity is not expected to change, at least in the near future.
In the meantime, shippers are being advised to place their bookings as early as possible, and well ahead of intended vessel departure date.
Delmar will continue to monitor the situation and work closely with all stakeholders in an attempt to mitigate any possible delays, and to ensure shipments are delivered to their final destination in the most time efficient manner. However, under the current environment, shippers should expect some delays to occur.
