U.S. Miscellaneous Trade Bill Temporarily Reduces Duty for Some Imports

On September 13, 2018, Miscellaneous Tariff Bill (MTB) of 2018 was signed into the law by the President. Included in the bill are temporary duty reductions for certain products imported into the U.S. between October 13th, 2018 and December 31st, 2020.

This type of trade bill is used for products that are designated ‘non-controversial’ or ‘non-competitive’ and represent less than $500,000 in collected duties per year.

Importers should note that if a product is subject to additional Section 301 duties, such duties are not reduced under this bill. Only duties found within HTS Chapters 1 through 97 are reduced as applicable.

The MTB bill is product specific, so not all products entered under a US HTS number are eligible for this reduced duty treatment.
