In response to the United States recently announcing additional duties covering $200 billion worth of Chinese imports, China has announced its own tariffs covering an additional $60 billion in U.S. products. The Chinese government statement is available here (not translated).
China states it has targeted over 5,000 U.S. products – all of which would attract between 5% and 25% in additional duties.
Neither of these specific trade announcements are currently in effect. The latest U.S. Section 301 $200 billion trade action (‘List 3’) is subject to a comment period and public hearings. A final decision by the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) regarding any further Section 301 action is expected once the applicable comment periods and hearings have concluded. China has stated it will enact these additional tariffs in response to further U.S. action.
Additional information will be provided as available.
Importers and exporters are encouraged to review their previous transactions to determine the impact and scale of this action on their trade program(s). Specifically, applicable products and their assigned Harmonized Tariff System (HTS) codes within the scope of this action should be reviewed carefully prior to any effective date.
