The Government of Canada is soliciting comments from Canadians with respect to the impact of surtaxes imposed on Canadian steel and aluminum further to section 232 US tariffs. Comments can be submitted by July 31 further to the recently issued notice.
The Government is also looking to provide some assistance to those importers that have been negatively impacted by retaliatory surtaxes that Canada has imposed on certain US steel and aluminum products. Additional information on these aid measures can be found here.
With the threat of additional US tariffs on imported automotive and automotive parts, not to mention retaliatory tariffs being imposed worldwide in response to US actions, global trade can be viewed as being on unsettled ground.
