The truckers’ strike in Brazil has reached day nine, but is finally starting to show signs of demobilization – two days after President Michel Temer announced a package of concessions to truck drivers. As a result, dry fuel stations began to be refueled with ethanol, gasoline and diesel – according to the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP), the total refueling of fuel stations in Brazil should take at least a week to return to normal.
Container terminals are also seeing delays, which prioritize import operations due to the lack of containers destined to the international market. Because of this it is still impossible to transport export cargo to the terminals of the Santos dock. The problem is further aggravated by the compromise of terminal storage capacity.
Nine airports are out of fuel because of the truck drivers’ strike. On the ninth day of the truck drivers’ strike, nine airports operated by Infraero are without fuel: Foz do Iguaçu (PR), Paulo Afonso (BA), Teresina (PI), Palmas (TO), João Pessoa (PB), Ilhéus , Cuiabá (MT), Imperatriz (MA) and Petrolina (PE). At these terminals, airplanes can only land if they have kerosene for the next leg of the trip.
Avianca, Azul, Gol and Latam, through the Brazilian Association of Aerial Airlines (Abear), report that, after a week of the truck drivers’ stoppage in Brazil, more than 270 flights were canceled and others changed at the most diverse airports in the country.
Delmar will continue to monitor the situation, and handle cargo movements as events allow, however due to the abovementioned disruption, delays can be expected.
