CETA Update Alert

Further to discussions between the CBSA and their EU counterparts, it would now appear that the designation “Canada/EU preferential origin” is open to some interpretation.  Specifically, Canada and the EU will now accept the below origin indications within field 3 of the CETA origin declaration.  This is contrary to the CBSA’s prior position stating that only “of Canada/EU preferential origin” would be acceptable per Annex 2 of the CETA protocol.

  1. Canada
  2. EU
  3. Canada/EU
  4. CM (Ceuta or Melilla)

Any inquiry concerning this or other CETA matter can be direct to the attention of Werner Kreissl at kreisslw@delmar.ca.
