A transporter’s strike called last week to protest against heavy vehicles being barred from moving inside the city of Karachi has ended.
Port traffic was at a standstill, and the situation escalated to such an extent that the port was almost at its full capacity, with many import containers blocking the movement of export containers.
We are being advised that it could take up to two to three weeks for the situation to normalize completely, with the initial focus being on clearly import containers prior to export containers being accepted at the terminals in the next few days.
Delmar will continue to monitor the situation and handle ocean freight cargo movements as events allow, however delays can be expected until the container backlog is cleared up.
