Date: September 27, 2016
Subject: Canada – Air Cargo Security Initiative – New Shipper Categories Coming Soon
Canadian Aviation Security Regulations will be amended, effective October 2016. Details provided by Transport Canada will be helpful to assist Exporters in deciding which category is more suitable for their business needs. According to Transport Canada, shippers will be required to advise Transport Canada their preferred security category.

  1. Known Consignor originates air cargo that has been made secure through a screening process applied at the time of packing.
    OR
  2. Account Consignor originates cargo and has it screened by an authorized Air Cargo Security Program participant to make it secure.

In the lead up to October 17, 2016, Transport Canada will automatically transition existing Registered Shippers to Account Consignor status.

Registered Shippers wishing to screen their own cargo as a Known Consignor should apply to the Air Cargo Security Program via this link.

We encourage our industry partners (truckers, warehouse operators, packing companies) who wish to provide service to our Air cargo clients, to contact Transport Canada, and Delmar, to ascertain how your company wishes to proceed based on these pending changes.
