Chittagong Port Update

Date: September 22, 2016
Subject: Chittagong Port Update
Chittagong Port is experiencing acute container congestion mainly due to slow delivery of import cargo that arrived pre and post Eid holiday period.

As of September 15th a total of 37,776 TEU were stockpiled at the port, well exceeding its total capacity.

The port congestion is affecting feeder berthing, and has resulted in waiting times for outbound feeders of around 5-6 days, with missed mother vessel connections at Colombo, Singapore and other major transhipment points likely to occur.

The congestion is expected to last at least into the first week of October.

Delmar is working diligently with our core carriers and stakeholders to ensure any delays are mitigated as much as possible, however some delays can be expected until congestion is eased at the port and feeder schedules return to normal.

Additional information may be obtained by contacting your local Delmar representative.
