Subject: Canada & USA – Transpacific Eastbound GRI Update
Please be advised that the previously announced December 1, 2016, General Rate Increase (GRI), which is applicable on the Asia & Indian Sub-Continent (ISC) to Canada & USA trade lanes, has been mostly mitigated, with exceptions on select Canada East Coast All-Water Service routings.

Transpacific ocean freight carriers have subsequently announced their intentions to implement the GRI, which is applicable on the Asia & ISC to Canada & USA trade lanes, effective December 15, 2016 at the following levels:

  • usd 12.00 per cbm or 500 kg
  • usd 540 per 20′ container
  • usd 600 per 40′ container
  • usd 675 per 40′ HC container
  • usd 760 per 45′ container

It should also be noted that the carriers have announced their intentions to implement an additional GRI effective January 1, 2017, applicable from Asia & the ISC to all destinations in Canada & the USA at the following levels:

  • usd 20.00 per cbm or 500 kg
  • usd 900 per 20′ container
  • usd 1000 per 40′ container
  • usd 1125 per 40′ HC container
  • usd 1266 per 45′ container

Delmar will continue to monitor the market and hold discussions with our core suppliers in an effort to offer our customers the most competitive rate and service options available.

It should be noted that carriers are reminding shippers that vessel capacity is expected to be tight as of mid-December leading up to Chinese New Year on January 28, 2017.

We wish to remind all Delmar clientele to advise their suppliers and associates that booking arrangements should be made at least 2 weeks in advance during this peak shipping period.

À compter du 1er janvier 2017, l’Organisation mondiale des douanes mettra en œuvre les modifications qui ont été apportées à la nomenclature du Système harmonisé (SH). Bien que nous nous attendions à ce que les États-Unis mettent en œuvre ces modifications tôt au début de l’année 2017, aucune date de mise en œuvre précise n’a été annoncée. Ces modifications toucheront environ 2 900 numéros à dix chiffres du HTS. Parmi ces modifications figurent les produits dans plusieurs domaines, dont le poisson et les fruits de mer, l’agriculture et les produits connexes, les produits chimiques, les produits pharmaceutiques, les engrais, les biens photographiques, le caoutchouc, le plastique et le cuir, le bois et le papier, les textiles, la céramique, les métaux de base, la machinerie, les véhicules, les produits fabriqués et le mobilier.

Subject: Major Changes to the 2017 U.S. Harmonized Tariff Schedule
Effective January 1, 2017 the World Customs Organization will implement the amendments to the Harmonized System (HS) Nomenclature. We expect the United States to implement these changes early in 2017, but no specific implementation date has been announced. This will impact approximately 2,900 10 –digit HTSUS. Among the changes are items in various chapters including fish and seafood, agricultural and related products, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, fertilizers, photographic goods, rubber, plastic and leather, wood and paper, textiles, ceramics, base metals, machinery, vehicles, manufactured articles and furniture.
